The Building Process

The building process

When our building team arrive, they will first peg out the conservatory base and dig the footings. This may be done manually or by machine. Concrete will then be poured into the footings and bricks laid to damp course level.

The oversite will be in-filled with a minimum of 100mm of scalpings, blinded off with sand. A plastic damp-proof membrane is then laid, followed by 50mm of Warm Floor Insulation.Next a steel reinforcing fabric is inserted at 50mm concrete, which will add additional strength to the base, followed by a further 50mm (minimum) of concrete.

Brickwork will be laid to complete the dwarf-wall, usually to 600mm high. A 65mm cavity is left and then block-work is laid inside, later to be dry lined & skimmed.

When the conservatory top arrives our highly experienced fitters erect the frame and roof. Once this is done, they will insert all glasswork & ensure the conservatory is watertight.

Internal works start with first fix electrical work, then the walls will be dry-lined and skimmed as required, and finally the fitting of skirting boards, electrical sockets & any additional requirements completed.

Product Information / Technical Specification

Our conservatories are manufactured using the highest quality products and craftsmanship. The frames are reinforced uPVC with galvanised steel for added strength and security, with a multi-point security locking system and internal beading, which cannot be removed from the outside.

All glass supplied is guaranteed 28mm Pilkington K Glass, a high quality product offering excellent insulation properties.

Heat losses through different materials can be compared by their ‘U’ values. The higher the ‘U’ value, the greater the heat loss through the material. For more information on the benefits of Pilkington K glass please click on their logo for a direct link to the Pilkington website.

The 25mm Heatguard polycarbonate roof system is made with high-insulating, polycarbonate and is available in a variety of thickness and colour, each one computer-tested for strength and durability. 25mm polycarbonate is ideal for a ‘room for all seasons’ and has a typical ‘U’ value of 1.6, which compares well with the typical insulation qualities of a brick-built extension.

As standard we also supply four top-opening fanlights, one set of French Doors, two double electrical sockets and one air-cooling / heater unit, though you are free to choose as many top or bottom opening windows as you would like.

Planning Permission / Project Management

In England and Wales you will not usually require planning permission for a conservatory, provided you do not exceed the permitted development limit for your property, and the proposed conservatory complies with criteria set by the local authority. Notable exceptions are listed buildings and conservation areas. Our best advice is if in doubt, check.

Planning is something we take very seriously and, as a company, are experienced in processing planning applications, from initially establishing whether permission is required, and if so, to submitting a full application and seeing it through to its conclusion.

We offer a complete service including design, building and installation, to the completion of all internal works, leaving your new room ready to decorate and furnish. And if you would like us to, we can also help with that!

We guarantee there are no hidden extras in our prices; we will always quote for a fully functional, constructed conservatory, made to measure to your individual specification.
